Portland Museum
Brand Architecture • Identity Design • Illustration • Brand Standards
The Portland Museum was undergoing a period of growth and transformation, with the launch of AHOY!, a new children's museum experience, alongside a variety of educational programs and community initiatives. While each offering served a unique audience, the organization lacked a cohesive brand architecture, resulting in multiple visual identities that felt disconnected and inconsistent.
To address this challenge, I developed a comprehensive identity system that unified the museum and its growing family of programs. The project included logo design, color palettes, typography, illustration styles, photography guidelines, and a robust brand guide that established a consistent visual and verbal framework across all communications while allowing each initiative to maintain its own unique character.
The resulting brand guide was intentionally unconventional—part standards manual, part visual storybook—capturing the museum's offbeat, artistic spirit while providing clear direction for future growth.
